ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT......VINTAGE OARS....
So along the same note as the vintage skis I posted about last week, I also have some vintage oars. Two are a very distressed red and one is a natural stain. I was thinking about spicing them up with some paint, maybe even some stripes and I found these inspiration shots.
I love the soft colours of these ones but I don't think I want to remove the distressed red paint completely.
Or I could strip them and stain them, like these ones.
I love the contrast of the dark hand rails, post and oars against all the white in this photo.
Or I could use them to hang hooks from.
Or just in a basket....or between two windows.
Or crossed above a bed (notice the vintage suitcase peeking out from the bed).
I like these trio of them above a sofa. I can't remember if I have 2, 3 or 4 tucked away.
Of course, there is always the oar as a drapery rod.
Then there is this very interested headboard. What a neat idea! I would have to start searching for more oars as three definitely wouldn't do it.

So how would you display them and would you repaint or re stain?
If they are vintage, I would leave them the way they are, but use them either as decor or as the curtain rod or base to attach hooks for coat rack .
ReplyDeleteCool ideas. Love the look, but the headboard, while providing interest and height doesn't really look all that comfy to actually put your pillow against... What do you think?! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat round up of images. Funnily enough - I read a post about oars today on another blog (can't remember whose) but she had painted her oars a light blue colour. I love them and am always drawn to them at antique fairs. Can't wait to see what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that headboard idea!! I'm with Maureen, leave them as they are if they are vintage :) - great post!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you decide to do! You have so many fun projects...
