The Ghost chair was designed by Philippe Starck, a French product designer, interior designer & architect who liked to mix old with new. In 2002, he created his first series of ghost chairs based on the classic Louis XVI armchair.

It was immediately embraced and many companies have bought the rights to manufacture it.
The original design was made from a single form of transparent polycarbonate. Which means that a mold is injected with polycarbonate rather than creating separate pieces that are then assembled together. These chairs have proven that they are very strong and durable.
Starck decided to use polycarbonate as he felt with this form of plastic, he would be able to reduce people's dependency on wood. Polycarbonate was easy to recycle compared to other synthetic materials. In response, many "green" advocates started buying these chairs.
It's available in black, as well as many other colours from various manufacturers.

other items from Starck.
The versatility of these chairs is another reason why these chairs are so popular. They fit in anywhere, you don't need to match a room's colour or theme. They are durable, easy to clean and are even stackable.
What I love about these chairs is that they do not distract from a beautiful antique desk or table. They disappear and keep the space looking crisp and clean.

Another fab iconic Monday post, Lisa! Appreciate the Ghost Chair images, esp. with the rustic wood dining table... set with the Tiffany boxes... and the great look with the Toulouse Lautrec poster, faded wallpaper and Eiffel Tower model. Blends beautifully no matter the room style! ;)
