CUSTOM OTTOMAN ON A BUDGET......

I have a confession to make, I have a very hard time passing up a good deal, whether I need it or not.

Therefore, a couple of weeks ago, when I was shopping at Ikea and stepped into the "AS IS" section and saw these ottomans for only $25, it was a done deal. $25 REALLY... for a cute little ottoman, and in my mind, I thought, if one is good then two are great!
So, the catch was, they weren't assembled, (like most things at Ikea) and that they didn't come with a finished cover, just a thin fitted batting cover.  It looked like this.

So, first up, what to cover it with.  I wanted to use something neutral as I'm going for that calm, tonal look in my family room.  Lucky for me, I had some linen upholstery fabric leftover from my wing chairs that I did last winter so that was easy.  I decided that I wanted to add some detailing to the ottoman so I purchased some black piping.

I used the batting cover as a template and a few hours later, I had this.
Isn't she cute?  And she fits right into my family room.

Total cost - $25 for ottoman
                     $0 for leftover fabric
                     $3.85 for piping
                   $28.85  TOTAL

Not too shabby.  Now, for the second one.  I think she'll find a home at our cottage.  Just need to think about what colour I want her to be.

  6. Wow, she looks great! Nobody would ever guess she started out as an Ikea ottoman in the "as is" section! Love the piping - wish I knew how to do that sort of thing.

    {Thanks for the comment on my dining room :-) I'm really happy with how it turned out :-) }
